- Reach hand around door jamb. Feel for light switch and flick on.
- Look carefully around the room. Look behind the door. Look on the other side of the bed. Check under the bed.
- Turn on the bed-side lamp.
- Turn off the overhead light.
- Jump into bed.
- Cover up, pulling blankets as far up as they will go.
- Turn off the bed-side lamp.
- Roll onto back. Pull blankets waaaaaayyyy up, over my shoulders, up to my chin, and from the inside, curl my hands over the edges of the covers.
- Lay very, very still and listen.
- Eventually drift off to sleep.

As a Child, I was Afraid of...
VAMPIRES! Actually, I was afraid of them through high school, I think. I had a routine I performed that I was certain would keep them away. Since I was never bitten, I guess it worked! (Ha ha ha!)
