One of my First College Memories

With Dom heading off to his first college course on Monday, I am entirely submerged in post-high school, time-to-start-my-adult-life memories. No doubt, this particular category will get filled up as time goes on and as Dom's college shenanigans spark more memories. I have a lot of great memories of college, although I only lasted on three semesters (sigh). That's another blog post, though.

The first weekend I was on the University of Southern Maine campus was full of activity--that was August/September, 1984. My roommate, Katie Erswell, and I stayed busy unpacking our belongings and arranging our dorm room in between jaunts to the all-you-can-possibly-stuff-into-you dining hall, fraternity houses, and others' dorms. Although I am sure a number of activities were planned to welcome incoming freshmen in (a little vague in the memory bank right now...perhaps alcohol related? I do not remember.), one particular adventure that stands out was Katie and I stealing an entire can of Humpty Dumpty Potato Chips from some meet-and-greet function. How we hoisted the can unseen from one location across campus to our dorm room, I will never understand. Nor do I remember whose idea it was in the first place. It was a sweet, sweet victory, however, and one we enjoyed for weeks to come.

As a side note, the image below came from eBay. Can you believe the empty "vintage" (what?) can was being sold for $127!!??
